I learned to swim at the “Fall Creek Falls!” as we used to call them. We either walked by way of going across the creek, or by climbing over the cliffs and walking to the falls over the rocks along the way. I get homesick just thinking about the beauty of “our area” which we took for granted, I am sure. The Falls are called “Ithaca Falls” now, but to me, they will always by the “Fall Creek Falls!” I was born and raised in Ithaca, N.Y. and I’ll always remember my hometown and it’s beauty. Thank you so much for bringing home memories to me! Love, Liz

I learned to swim at the Ithaca Falls; We called them the “Fall Creek Falls” and do to this day! Ithaca is my hometown, and I will always love it. The only problem is the weather rarely stay nice for 2 days in a row; especially when we used plan a family picnic. It doesn’t seem possible that we ‘ve been gone for 40 years now. I was born and raised there, and will always consider Ithaca, N.Y. my home! Love, Liz

I just saw a show on Nature, revealing crows having a funeral. I am sure that I have seen one, as well, just did not know the concept. Fascinating birds. Especially calling them from a turkey blind in full camo. Drives them nuts.

Dear Tony,
Jon sent me your comments on the possible sighting of ravens in the Ithaca area to my great delight. Always crazy about crows, after being sent a you tube video, I have become a ravenophile. They seem even smarter than crows and tame-able as well. The antics of the raven, who plays games with balls, the family dog, etc. are simply unbelievable.
Hopefully there are more impressive ravens that the one you show, though, around here.
I am not a birdwatcher, per se, as I have so much touble remembering or IDing, the rarer sorts like warblers and company, but i do love birds and really appreciate hearing from you about local ravens.

When I worked at the state parks, one of my naturalist staff was doing informal interpretation at the overlook at Taughannock Falls. When he pointed out a raven flying around the canyon, a woman said, “You must be from out west. Around here we call them crows.”
Of course they are not the same species, but how could he argue with that?

I was born and raised in Ithaca, N.Y., and have always as I grew, considered it to be my hometown. Ithaca has so much natural beauty, and movies were actually filmed there many years ago, I’ve been told. Reason for their being moved was the weather. I’ve always known that although Ithaca has so much natural beauty, one could never count on the weather to have many days that stayed as lovely. Love, Liz
