Labrador Hollow and Tinker Falls

South of Syracuse, NY straddling the border of Onondaga and Cortland Counties is Labrador Hollow Unique Area, established by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, NYSDEC. Like the Finger Lakes valleys, Labrador Hollow was reamed by the passage of Ice Age glaciers, creating very steep hillsides and a flat valley bottom holding, in this case, Labrador Pond. Labrador Hollow has its own “hanging valley” as well, a short gorge that ends in Tinker Falls. A short gentle trail leads to the scenic 50-foot overhanging waterfall. 2016 was the centennial year for the creation of the National Park Service and April 15-23, 2017 is “National Park Week” when admission to all of our national parks is free!
